About the game
Discourse started as an I+D project, in which I tried to master Unity’ plugin Playmaker as a designer tool.
After some time, it turned into a portfolio’ demo:
*You play as a tormented writer who used some people’ misery to become succesful, leading to several suspicious suicides involving political and religious powers.
Ten years later, a witness shows up to offer new information -which [the writer] percieves as an opportunity to redemption...*
What I did in the game
- I designed the narrative and the overall [game / level] design.
- I structured the main story and wrote the initial demo story.
- I prototyped a horizontal slice showing the game from start to finish.
- I did the programming, minimising the dependency on Playmaker.
- I did a mainframe to migrate the story from Excel to Unity via CSV parsing.
What I have learned from working on this project
- Unity’ guts:
- How to code in C#, but just a little.
- How to achieve acceptable lighting with URP.
- How to deal with the post-processing stack and volumes.
- How to manage Google Sheets’ macros.
- How to modelate 3D low-mid poly in Blender.
- How to make compelling textures in Photoshop.
