About the game
Afterlight was meant to be a puzzle-adventure game with environmental narrative. You would play as Xin, an astronaut stranded during a mission on Titan.
I designed the game to be something like “Inside meets Another World + Shutter Island”, but focused on the hard sci-fi part. For that purpose, we somehow managed to be documented and aided by an actual NASA’ neuropsychologist.
What I did in the game
- I designed the narrative and the overall [game / level] design. As a result, most of the prototypes.
- I structured the main story and wrote the initial demo story.
- I was the one in contact with the media and the community. Also, the copy writer for any material needed.
- I designed and wrote the Kickstarter campaign and its updates almost entirely -until a kickstarter boost service was contracted.
- I was also the project manager until I had to focus on the Kickstarter.
What I have learned from working on this project
- How to multi task, while working as project manager, designer, writer and PR.
- How to write proper design documentation.
- How to deal with a financial partner / publisher.
- How to properly communicate your game to the press to be noticed as desired.
- How to manage your community to grow it organically.
